Position: Assistant Softball Coach
Location: Garfield Heights High School
Position Type: Part Time, Stipend
Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Softball Coach to support our high school softball program. The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to mentor student-athletes, promote sportsmanship and teamwork, and uphold the standards of the Garfield Heights City Schools athletic program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, a commitment to student development, and adherence to all district and OHSAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Mentorship & Athlete Development: Support student-athletes by promoting teamwork, respect, discipline, and personal growth both on and off the field.
* Program Support: Assist the Head Coach in implementing a comprehensive softball program focused on skill development, competitive success, and positive team culture.
* Compliance & Eligibility: Ensure all athletes meet academic, behavioral, and eligibility standards set by OHSAA and Garfield Heights City Schools.
* Practice & Game Preparation:
* Help design and execute effective practice plans, contribute to game strategy, and assist with in-game decision-making as needed.
* Team Operations: Aid in coordinating team communications, scheduling needs, equipment distribution, and game-day logistics.
* Safety & Conduct: Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment during all practices, games, travel, and team activities.
* Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and the community to foster support for the softball program.
* Record Keeping: Assist with maintaining accurate records for attendance, athlete progress, and program documentation.
* Professional Growth: Stay current on coaching techniques, OHSAA regulations, and best practices in youth sports and athlete development.
* Other Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Softball Coach, Athletic Director, or school administration.
Qualifications:
* Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
* Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
* Prior coaching or playing experience preferred (minimum 3-5 years strongly encouraged)
* Strong understanding of softball fundamentals, strategy, and player development
* Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with students, families, and staff
* Demonstrated commitment to academic success, sportsmanship, and student well-being
