Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School (AoH), a leader in adult education and healthcare workforce preparation in Washington, DC, is seeking a dedicated Adjunct Phlebotomy Program Instructor to support our Winter/Spring 2026 Phlebotomy Technician Training Program. This adjunct role is ideal for a certified phlebotomy professional who is passionate about teaching adults and preparing learners for success in healthcare careers.
This position is located at our Ward 5 campus: 2315 18th Place NE, Washington, DC.
TERM & REQUIRED DATES
* Instruction Begins: February 9, 2026
* Required Instructor Orientation: February 4 & 5, 2026 (attendance required)
* Hours: Approximately 8-16 hours per week , depending on program needs
* Schedule:
Daytime Classes - Monday-Thursday, 10:00 AM-2:30 PM
(Skills labs and competency check-offs occur during scheduled class hours or as arranged)
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Adjunct Phlebotomy Program Instructor teaches and evaluates adult learners in classroom, skills lab, and simulated clinical settings. The instructor ensures that learners develop strong, safe, and professional phlebotomy skills aligned with national certification standards and industry expectations. This role requires adherence to OSHA, HIPAA, and CDC guidelines and the ability to create a supportive, empowering learning environment for diverse adult learners.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
* Deliver phlebotomy curriculum using lectures, demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on lab instruction
* Teach and model proper venipuncture technique, specimen collection, infection control, and safety procedures
* Evaluate learner performance through quizzes, skill check-offs, and attendance tracking
* Maintain accurate documentation in the Student Information System (SIS)
* Support students in preparing for national certification exams
* Maintain a safe, clean, and organized skills lab and classroom environment
* Communicate effectively with learners, faculty, and program leadership
* Participate in candidate screening and pre-program review as needed
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
* Current national phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMCA, NCCT, or equivalent)
* Minimum two (2) years of recent hands-on phlebotomy experience
* Strong knowledge of venipuncture, specimen handling, safety protocols, and lab procedures
* Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with adult learners
* Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
* Comfort using LMS/SIS platforms for documentation
Preferred
* Prior instructional or preceptor experience
* Experience working with adult learners from diverse educational backgrounds
* Familiarity with workforce training standards and national certification pathways
