POSITION PURPOSE:
The Academic Advisor provides individualized guidance to students on course selection, degree requirements, academic policies, and successful progression toward graduation. This role supports students in navigating their academic pathways, connects them to campus resources, and contributes to advising and retention efforts through direct outreach and responsive student support.
SALARY RANGE: $52,500 - $54,589/Annually
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
* Provide one-on-one academic advising to students regarding course selection, degree planning, scheduling, registration, and understanding academic requirements.
* Assist students in creating and updating academic plans , ensuring they are aligned with program requirements and College policies.
* Monitor student academic progress using advising systems and degree audit tools ; inform students of outstanding requirements, registration holds, and potential risks to timely graduation.
* Educate students on academic policies and procedures , including add/drop processes, withdrawal guidelines, repeat rules, and program-specific requirements.
* Support new student onboarding by assisting with schedule building, registration support, and orientation-related advising activities.
* Participate in early alert outreac h by contacting students flagged for academic concern, helping them understand available resources, and encouraging follow-through.
* Maintain accurate advising notes and electronic record s in accordance with institutional guidelines.
* Help students navigate campus resources , including tutoring, counseling, accessibility services, career development, and faculty support.
* Hold scheduled advising appointment s and support walk-in hours, providing timely and student-centered service.
* Assist students in using institutional technologies , such as the degree audit system, registration portals, and learning platforms.
* Contribute to retention efforts by participating in outreach to non-registered students, students on academic warning/probation, and those showing signs of disengagement.
* Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students' academic needs and connect them with appropriate services.
* Assist with all incoming/new student enrollment initiatives and college-wide programs including but not limited to Transfer events, Accepted Students Day, New Student Orientation, etc.
* Ensure all services are provided in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
* Must be able to work occasional evenings and Saturdays
* Other duties as assigned
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
* Student advising plans are accurately completed in a timely manner
* Student and staff inquiries are courteously attended to in a timely manner
* Telephone calls and visitors are courteously received and addressed in a timely manner
* Documents and reports are accurately produced and up to date
* Paper and electronic files are well-maintained
* Keeps Directors informed on student and related issues
REQUIREMENTS: The person selected will have the following qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree Required
* Master's Degree preferred. Master's Degree in the field of Higher Education and/or Counseling preferred
Experience:
* Minimum of 5 years' auditing or accounting experience.
Required Knowledge:
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Experience Required:
* Minimum of 1 to 2 years of equivalent full-time employment
* Experience in Academic Advising with college-age students preferred
