To provide instruction, training, and mentoring to students in the theory and practice of electrical systems, wiring, motors, controls, and safety in a CTE/trade school context. The instructor guides students to become competent in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in electrical theory, wiring, circuitry, motor controls, National Electrical Code (NEC), blueprint reading, conduit bending, and safety practices.
* Assess, evaluate, and monitor student progress; provide feedback, remedial help, and support.
* Develop and update curriculum, instructional materials, and course outlines in consultation with other CTE instructors and administration.
* Maintain workshop, lab, tools, equipment, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and code standards.
* Manage inventory of electrical components, tools, and materials used in instruction.
* Supervise students during lab/shop work and enforce safety and equipment use protocols.
* Collaborate with business/industry partners to align instruction with current industry standards and workforce needs.
* Serve on school and district committees, participate in professional development, and attend required meetings and trainings.
* Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the role of a CTE instructor in the school system.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Education : A high school diploma or equivalency, at least four years of full-time, relevant work experience (with one year in the last 5 years), and a current state or national license of industry-based credential.
* Licensure / Certification : Valid electrician's license or journeyman/master electrician certification is a strong plus.
* Experience : Several years (e.g., 4+ years) practical experience in electrical installation, maintenance, or repair, preferably in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
* Prior teaching or training experience in a technical / vocational setting is preferred.
* Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code), electrical safety, motor controls, wiring, conduit, transformers, Blueprints, etc.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
* Ability to adapt instruction to students with varying levels of background and ability.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and industry updates.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
* Work in a lab/shop environment with exposure to electrical equipment, tools, and materials.
* Must adhere to safety protocols, wear protective gear, and enforce safe practices.
* Periodic lifting of tools, equipment, wiring, materials.
* Occasional need to work evenings or provide extra lab/shop sessions depending on course schedules.
