About the Intellectual Property - Patent and Trademark Practice
The intellectual property practice provides strategic guidance on trademark and patent law, supporting clients throughout their innovation and business lifecycles. On the trademark side, attorneys assist with clearing, prosecuting, and managing trademark rights, enforcing brand protections, handling licensing and business transactions, and navigating the complexities of brand management across industries.
Responsibilities
The firm is seeking an associate with at least two years of experience to join the trademark team in San Francisco, San Diego, or New York. The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on experience in trademark prosecution, including conducting domestic and international trademark clearance searches and managing trademark enforcement matters. This role requires strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to handle a busy prosecution and enforcement practice.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting and evaluating preliminary and in-depth U.S. and global trademark clearance searches.
* Drafting identifications of goods/services, evaluating specimens and Statements of Use, and preparing substantive office action responses before the USPTO.
* Advising on Madrid Protocol filings.
* Conducting enforcement investigations, drafting cease and desist letters and takedown notices, and negotiating trademark settlement and coexistence agreements.
* Drafting trademark, copyright, and NIL licenses and assignments.
* Providing copyright counseling and filing services, as well as domain name enforcement, including drafting UDRP complaints.
* Clearing content for social media and digital marketing use.
* Supporting diligence and corporate transactions involving trademark, copyright, and domain matters.
Collaboration is a key component of this role, and attorneys are expected to work from the office approximately 60% of the time in accordance with firm guidelines.
Qualifications
* JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school.
* Admitted or eligible for admission in California or New York.
* Direct experience in trademark law, with a focus on clearance, prosecution, and enforcement.
* Prior law firm experience required.
* Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Professionalism in client and colleague interactions.
* Strong ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing responsibilities.
* High level of organization and attention to detail.
* Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment.
