Respiratory Care Practitioner - Full Time - Clackamas Job Summary To provide therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care interventions, under physician direction; based upon assessment and communication with other health care professionals to treat cardio‑pulmonary and related disorders.

Essential Responsibilities

Cardio‑pulmonary Resuscitation: Provide basic and advanced cardiac life support interventions including airway management, chest compressions, and diagnostic measurements. Measured by patient survival, physician observation, and quality assurance monitoring.

Critical Care: Manage neonatal, pediatric, and adult life‑support equipment by initiating and monitoring equipment function, managing an artificial airway, assessing patients with invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic testing; formulate, implement, and assess the effectiveness of a patient care plan in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.

Therapeutic Procedures: Assure respiratory sufficiency by performing ordered therapeutic interventions, completing patient assessment, and evaluating the effectiveness of therapy. Collaborate with the health‑care team, operate all necessary equipment safely, educate patients, and maintain documentation.

Diagnostic Monitoring: Obtain information on patient status through invasive and non‑invasive monitoring, evaluate data quality, interpret findings, and integrate results into the treatment plan.

Equipment & Supplies: Ensure equipment and supplies are available, clean, sterilize, calibrate, and set up; monitor function, document usage, report malfunctions, and collaborate with supervisors and technical staff.

Health Promotion: Guide and educate patients and families about therapies that promote respiratory health, participate in discharge planning, provide outpatient education, and evaluate durable medical equipment.

Experience Basic Qualifications

Patient assessment, basic respiratory care procedures, diagnostic techniques, infection control, and mechanical ventilation (neonatal, pediatric, adult); knowledge of adult mechanical ventilation and arterial blood gas analysis.

Experience operating, identifying, and resolving malfunction of ventilators, aerosol generators, oximeters, capnographs, transcutaneous monitors, oxygen delivery devices, and pulmonary function devices; able to draw arterial blood specimens from radial, brachial, femoral sites and assess patient status using invasive and non‑invasive techniques.

Education

Graduate of an AMA‑approved Respiratory Care program.

High school diploma or GED.

License, Certification, Registration

Respiratory Therapist Certificate or Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate from National Board of Respiratory Care.

Respiratory Care Practitioner License (Oregon).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 2 months of hire.

Basic Life Support required at hire.

Additional Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years ICU experience.

Two years experience in patient health education.

Minimum of one year post‑graduation experience with basic skills in adult and neonatal ventilator management, arterial blood gases, airway management, or completion of KSMC Respiratory Therapy Internship.

Thorough knowledge of neonatal and adult ventilator management theory, pulmonary anatomy and physiology, and pathology.

Knowledge of gas monitoring, capnography, metabolic monitoring.

Patient education experience.

Knowledge of durable medical equipment procedures.

Protocol‑directed care experience.

Experience with tracheostomy changes.
