K.Hovnanian Children’s Hospital – Jersey Shore University Medical Center – Neptune, New Jersey Overview The Pediatric Hospitalist Division at K.Hovnanian Children’s Hospital is recruiting a full‑time Newborn Hospitalist to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic care nursery setting experiencing tremendous growth. The role complements a team of academic attending hospitalists and pediatric nurse practitioners in a collaborative, team‑based approach.

Job Summary Primary responsibility: Provide medical care to healthy newborns in the well newborn nursery, ensuring their health and well‑being, identifying and managing any issues, and providing education and support to families. This position does not include attending deliveries or high‑risk deliveries (attended by NICU attendings).

Responsibilities

Perform routine assessments and examinations of newborns in the well newborn nursery.

Provide evidence‑based medical care and treatments, including ordering labs and medications.

Educate families on newborn care, breastfeeding, and other relevant topics.

Collaborate with healthcare teams—NICU staff, teaching hospitalist service, nurses, lactation consultants, and other professionals—to ensure comprehensive, equitable care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance newborn care and outcomes.

Prioritize safe and efficient discharges by 11 a.m. to facilitate smooth workflow.

Coordinate transfer to higher levels of care (NICU/SCN) for sick newborns.

Attend TeamSTEPPS daily morning huddles.

Collaborate with other hospital departments in the delivery of care to newborns, as appropriate.

Supervise and collaborate with pediatric nurse practitioners.

Requirements

BC/BE in General Pediatrics (American Board of Pediatrics).

Experience caring for newborns in a hospital setting.

Excellent communication skills to work effectively with families and healthcare teams.

BLS, NALS, PALS certifications.

Skills & Qualities

Strong clinical judgement and decision‑making skills.

Ability to provide empathetic and supportive care to families.

Ability to work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams, including nurse practitioners.

Compensation Minimum Base Salary: $188,292. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate is an estimate of minimum base pay in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of the total rewards package. The final compensation and benefits package will be discussed during the interview process.
