Offer Description The Centre for Demographic Research (DEMO) at UCLouvain invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral fellowship (2 years) within the research project “Climate change-related mortality in different population groups in urbanized Belgium” (TEMPUR), funded by the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) and Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).
About the TEMPUR project
The project aims to evaluate cause-specific mortality attributable to temperature under different future climate and population scenarios at high spatial and temporal resolution. TEMPUR is a collaborative initiative involving UCLouvain, Ghent University, the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium, Sciensano, and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
The postdoctoral researcher will be based at UCLouvain and will contribute to the design of population projections aligned with the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) for Belgium. This will involve surveying experts and stakeholders to inform demographic assumptions and translating these into population projections using both the cohort-component method and microsimulation techniques.
Candidate profile
PhD in Demography, Population Studies, Statistics or a closely related field. Candidates should have obtained their PhD within the last four years or will receive it within the next few months. Applicants shouldnothave lived in Belgium for more than 24 months in the last three years before the start of the contract.
Strong interest in population projections and/or microsimulation methods.
Advanced quantitative skills and excellent command of R.
Excellent command of English, with strong scientific writing skills; knowledge of French or Dutch is an asset.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team
Strong communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders.
What we offer
A full-time appointment for 1 year, renewable for a second year, subject to positive evaluation;
An attractive salary corresponding to FNRS postdoctoral scales in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (net monthly stipend of 3,071€). The grant covers public transportation within Belgium. Health care is mostly covered by Social Security in Belgium;
Aplanned start date of March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter;
A stimulating and supportive research environment at the Centre for Demographic Research in the vibrant campus in Louvain-la-Neuve, close to Brussels;
A research budget for conference participation and article processing charges;
