Responsibilities Performs the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. This position will, during his/her shift operate without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor. FED Registered Nurses are responsible for, but not limited to, ventilator management, lab draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, responding/activating code blue and housekeeping as needed. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. This position requires work on weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on‑call/call‑back status.

Qualifications

RN Licensure in State of Texas

Willingness to be cross‑trained to other unit areas

Demonstrated commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training, and immediate reporting of any suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer

Education / Licensure

Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license

Effective January 6, 2012, must possess an Associate Degree, Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University. New graduate RN’s in possession of a permit to practice in the State of Texas may provide documentation from their RN program validating completion of nursing program requirements

Certifications (must obtain and maintain current certifications in accordance with the AHA Healthcare Provider’s Program)

XBCLS/CPR – Must be current upon hire and thereafter

XACLS – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience must obtain within 6 months of hire

XPALS – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience must obtain within 6 months of hire

XNRP – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience must obtain within 6 months of hire

XTNCC – TNCC required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience must obtain within 6 months of hire

XCPI – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience must obtain within 6 months of hire

Applicants must be familiar with basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the TX Nurse Practice Act

Must pass the Medication Assessment within 3 months of coming to the department with a score of 90% or greater
