Advance Practice Provider – Inpatient Neurosurgery
Job Description
The Advance Practice Provider in Inpatient Neurosurgery at VHC Health Physicians plays a vital role in the comprehensive care of patients admitted for neurosurgical evaluation, treatment, and recovery. Working under a PA Agreement with collaborating neurosurgeons, the PA provides direct inpatient care, coordinates multidisciplinary management, and ensures continuity of care from admission through discharge. Key responsibilities include: Performing daily rounds on neurosurgical inpatients, documenting progress notes, and updating care plans. Managing pre- and post-operative neurosurgical patients, including monitoring neurological status, wound care, and pain management. First assisting in OR for neurosurgical procedures. Performing bedside procedures at the oversight of supervising physician. Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (CT, MRI, labs) and adjusting treatment plans accordingly. Coordinating with neurosurgeons, hospitalists, intensivists, nursing staff, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to optimize patient outcomes. Participating in discharge planning, patient/family education, and transitions of care to outpatient follow-up. Responding to inpatient consults and acute neurosurgical issues, including emergent evaluations in the ICU or step-down units and ED. Supporting quality improvement initiatives, risk management, and compliance programs specific to neurosurgical services. Awards & Recognition
