Public Works Maintenance Worker – City of El Dorado, Kansas Compensation:

This position starts at $17.45 per hour. Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications. Starting pay is determined through our structured step‑guidance placement process. Your exact starting rate will fall within the posted range and will reflect where you are placed in the step‑guidance system.

Benefits:

Position typically works four days a week, with ten‑hour workdays from Monday to Thursday. May be subject to emergency call back.

Position Summary: Maintains and operates equipment and performs various maintenance duties within the Public Works Department including streets and infrastructure. Classification level will be based on mastery of skill and division needs.

Essential Functions: Maintenance Activities

Assists in maintaining the streets, alleys, parking lots, storm drainage areas, etc.

Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.

Assists in the installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks.

Performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter, and ramp installation and repair as required.

Operating Equipment Activities

Shows the desire to learn how to operate various heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoe, loader, trencher, dump trucks, and bobcat, assuring for safety of self and others, and following proper operation procedures.

Experience: This is an entry level position; prior experience is not required. Employee is expected to acquire the necessary information and skills to perform the job satisfactorily within six months.

Certifications: Possession of a valid Kansas Driver's License. Possession of a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within the first 90 days of employment.
