Salary:

$16.50 - $24.75 Hourly; $34,320 - $51,480 Annually. This position is a Pay Band C2.

Why does the job exist? Provide direct personal care and related support to long‑term care facility residents to maintain quality care services and an optimum quality of life while ensuring adherence to Department of Health and facility policies and procedures. Resident care assignment may include adolescents, adults, and geriatric age groups.

How does it get done?

Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs.

Turn or reposition bedridden patients.

Provide physical support to assist patients in performing daily living activities such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising.

Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure the patient receives an appropriate diet.

Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.

Ideal Candidate

The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.

The willingness to handle difficult residents with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.

The ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent.

Employment Requirements This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre‑employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. The applicant will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire. Employment is subject to a nationwide criminal background check pursuant to the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification from the State of New Mexico, or obtain certification within four (4) months of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Works throughout the nursing service area (e.g., nurse stations, resident rooms).

Moves intermittently during working hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, and others.

Handles hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.

Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.

Works beyond normal hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post‑disaster).

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
