Construction & Maintenance Technician (Level I, II, or III) Delta Utilities is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Technician to perform company field operations, including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

Job Summary / Purpose To perform field operations, including installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

Accountabilities and Essential Functions

Installs, repairs, or replaces steel and plastic pipe.

Provides first responder assistance in emergency situations.

Locates gas lines.

Loads and unloads required equipment, tools, and supplies onto and from truck.

(C&M Tech I) Transports required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites.

(C&M Tech II) Trains and coaches less experienced members of the crew.

(C&M Tech III) Assists with or leads work on site.

Minimum Requirements Minimum Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

Minimum Experience Required

(C&M Tech I) Requires no prior work experience.

(C&M Tech II) Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in construction, installation, and maintenance of gas distribution systems, including a commercial driver’s license and company welding certifications.

(C&M Tech III) Requires a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in construction, installation, and maintenance of gas distribution systems, including two years’ experience welding (steel) pipe. Requires a commercial driver’s license and company welding certification.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Able to apply industry and company safety standards and regulations.

Able to provide a valid state driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

Able to use proper tools for any given job.

Able to assist with plugging and tapping procedures.

Able to assist in preparation of pipe for welding.

Able to learn and operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher, and a two-ton or larger truck.

Able to learn and perform gas meter resets and relights.

Able to learn and utilize the company’s mapping system.

Able to learn and complete paperwork as required.

Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.

Able to respond well to changing priorities.

Able to solve problems with logical solutions.

Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

Able to learn and use a personal computer, SAP, and mobile data.

Able to listen effectively and clarify information as needed.

Able to communicate with co‑workers, customers, community leaders, and contractors and vendors.

Able to work independently or in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve objectives.

Able to motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision including self‑directed learning.

Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s ethics and compliance code of conduct, and other company policies and procedures, and to complete all required training courses timely.

Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the company’s values and business practices consistently.

Certificates, Licenses, Etc. Required

Valid driver’s license with no moving violations within the last 12 months.

Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of employment.

Must pass company welding certification within 90 days of employment.

Physical Requirements

Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.

Able to perform on‑site inspections.

Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.

Able to sit for extended periods of time.

Able to operate office equipment such as copy machine, fax machine, calculator, and telephone.

Able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

Working Conditions

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned, within scope of responsibilities.

Job duties performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.

Work predominately done while standing or sitting.

The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze is required.

Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.

Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.

Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.

Able to work rotating shifts, if required.

Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.

Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.

Able to be included in a random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety‑sensitive positions.

May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts.

Notice As a safety‑sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including pre‑employment drug testing and background screening.
