Job Description The Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Materials & Research Division is seeking a detail‑oriented and highly organized Administrative Technician to support our engineering, testing, and research operations. The role involves managing documentation, data entry, project tracking, procurement, and communication across teams in a fast-paced, technical environment.
Job Duties
Answer and direct phone calls to the appropriate division member.
Manage emails and schedule for the division head.
Create and edit division correspondence.
Supervise Office Specialist.
Manage building security: admit visitors, issue visitor badges, direct guests.
Manage purchasing program, P‑Cards, and reconciliations.
Assist division head with budget preparation and monitoring; recommend coding for equipment and supplies.
Maintain annual fixed‑asset inventory of 300+ lab/field equipment.
Maintain vehicle inventory: compile mileage, condition, age; determine replacement needs and report to operations.
Oversee new hire and temporary worker hiring and onboarding.
Maintain division phone and cell‑phone directory.
Assist division and section heads with conference registrations and motel reservations.
Arrange retirement events.
Provide Kronos (timecard) support to 85+ division members.
Assist section head with contract administration, accreditation, and certificate updates.
Process expense reimbursements and motel bills for payment.
Order office supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum qualifications: Coursework, training, or experience related to research, presentation, or publication in areas related to the programs or functions of the agency; business administration; accounting; customer service; and/or technical support work, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Knowledge of file management systems (e.g., OnBase or similar).
