Team Success

Summary Fessler & Bowman is responsible for successful bidding of projects, from the initial bid review and analysis through the hand-off from the Estimating Team to the Project Management Team. The Estimator is responsible for all aspects of the estimating function, including bid analysis, plan review, quantity take offs, subcontractor pricing collection, putting together bid information, and assessment of both winning and losing bids.

Five Key Roles of the Estimator

Developing innovative, accurate estimates consistent with Fessler and Bowman’s costs

Conducting a thorough and detailed project take-off, assembling all quantities, man hour requirements, etc.

Soliciting subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewing prequalification requirements, and determining the best qualified subcontractors

Identifying project-specific risk issues and the potential impact to Fessler and Bowman, as well as potential strategies to help mitigate those risks

Reviewing project plans and specifications and communicating with project stakeholders and internal resources to confirm the scope of the project

Developing the project plan, the project schedule and the proposal documents for all estimates

Reviewing estimates for other estimating team members

Supporting the determination of whether to pursue a project by participating in the “Go/No-Go” process on complex projects

Creating complete project budgets once a project is being actively bid

Assembling documentation and preparing client presentations for proposal submissions

Other relevant duties as assigned

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and experience

At least five (5) years of construction experience

Proficient in using Bid2Win estimating software or similar tool(s)

Estimating medium-to-large commercial and industrial projects

Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.

Travel Travel to and from job sites and office locations is required for this position. Fessler & Bowman will compensate for travel when applicable.

Work Environment As an Estimator, you will be subject to various work environments. These environments include office and field settings. Employee must be comfortable with sitting for an extended period.
