Our Opportunity We are currently seeking a Managing Engineer with expertise in ADAS and/or AVs for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in our Farmington Hills, MI office. In this role, you will work as part of a team executing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance (e.g., emissions, fuel economy, noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), drivability, acceleration); federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products. You will have the opportunity to ultimately develop your own consulting practice and grow professionally within Exponent.
Responsibilities
Managing projects from initiation to completion; communicating project updates to team members, clients, and administrative staff; ensuring Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work; and identifying business development opportunities
Developing and managing client relationships
Project and cost management on casework
Setting up and executing various test programs, including full‑scale vehicle tests and component or control system evaluations
Continuing to develop specialized expertise in automotive technology such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology
Managing, mentoring, and providing project work for junior consulting staff
Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice
Skills & Qualifications
Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of work experience in ADAS, AVs, and/or vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
Currently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
Ability to generate business and manage client relationships
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non‑technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff
Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands‑on skills
Versatile, team‑oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required

Compensation Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent’s total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above, total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.
Salary Range USD $175,000.00 – $204,000.00 per year
