STS Technical Services is hiring a
VFR Helicopter Pilot for a Lead Assignment
to support air medical operations based in Kirbyville, Texas. This role combines hands on flying with leadership responsibility, placing you at the center of emergency medical response while guiding and developing base pilots in a safety first environment.
This position is built for experienced VFR pilots who lead by example, operate with discipline, and take ownership of both mission execution and team performance. Off duty housing is provided.
Position Overview The VFR Helicopter Pilot (Lead Assignment) supports air medical transport missions under CAMTS guidelines while serving as the primary pilot leader at the base. In addition to line pilot duties, this role oversees pilot performance, scheduling, training coordination, and operational communication in alignment with company procedures and FAA regulations.

Air medical transport operating under CAMTS guidelines
Aircraft type: Bell 407
VFR and NVG operations
Instrument rating required
Twenty four hour operations with rotating day and night shifts
Strong safety culture focused on operational excellence
Off duty housing provided
Lead Pilot Responsibilities
Supervise and develop base pilots under the guidance of the Air Medical Base Supervisor, Area Operations Manager, and Director of Operations
Ensure pilots maintain the knowledge and skill required to operate assigned aircraft in accordance with the General Operations Manual and FAA regulations
Coordinate business planning, marketing efforts, and operational efficiency for the EMS base
Conduct professional development, performance assessments, counseling, and recommend disciplinary action as required
Manage pilot scheduling, occupational health compliance, safety training, and recurrent training coordination
Oversee monthly schedule creation, shift coverage, and timely communication with management
Approve base pilot bonus and expense vouchers and audit routine base bills
Maintain compliance with FAA regulations and company policies
Communicate aircraft operational status to Area and Maintenance Managers and the Scheduling Department
Participate in safety meetings and support flight safety initiatives
Additional Responsibilities
Perform line pilot duties in accordance with the General Operations Manual
Safely conduct day and night air medical missions
Assist with patient and medical equipment loading and unloading as required
Participate in community outreach programs
Support Safety Management System initiatives, Destination Zero, and other safety campaigns
Deliver professional and courteous service to internal and external customers

Minimum Qualifications
Commercial Helicopter Rating
Instrument Helicopter Rating
First Class Medical Certificate
Meet CAMTS minimum flight time requirements:
2,000 total flight hours
1,500 helicopter hours
1,000 hours PIC helicopter
500 turbine helicopter hours
100 hours unaided night operations or
50 hours unaided night and 100 hours NVG
NVG qualified or eligible
Body weight not to exceed 235 pounds
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated internal and external customer service skills
Pre Employment Requirements
Ability to pass a pre placement physical and functional capacity exam including lifting up to 100 pounds
Drug screening and background check
Interview and acceptance by PHI management
Annual flu vaccine not required
Schedule & Location Requirements
Seven days on and seven days off rotation
Schedule rotation may be required
Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance while on rotation
Off duty housing provided
