About the Role Akkodis is seeking a Senior level IT System Engineer to support enterprise and operational technology (OT) environments for a major client. This role is heavily design focused and ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys building, and optimizing complex systems, not just maintaining them.
You will be responsible for designing end to end IT and IT/OT infrastructure, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, high performing, and aligned with business and operational needs. This is a hands‑on consulting role requiring strong technical ownership and the ability to work directly with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities System & Infrastructure Design (Primary Focus)
Design end-to-end enterprise IT and IT/OT system architectures, including:
Compute
Storage
Networking
Security layers
Architect scalable, fault tolerant, and highly available infrastructure solutions.
Translate business and operational requirements into technical designs and system standards.
Design backup, disaster recovery, and resiliency strategies.
Lead system upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure enhancements.
Server & Virtualization Engineering
Design, deploy, and manage physical and virtual server environments.
Hands‑on experience with VMware and/or Hyper‑V.
Perform capacity planning, resource allocation, and performance tuning.
Support high availability and failover solutions.
Windows Server & Identity Management
Design and administer Windows Server environments.
Architect and support:
Active Directory
Group Policy
DNS, DHCP
IIS
File and print services
Implement Windows security best practices including patching, firewall configuration, and access control.
Develop automation using PowerShell and manage systems using SCCM.
Network & Security (Working Knowledge)
Support and configure switches, routers, and firewalls.
Understand VPNs, network segmentation, and intrusion detection/prevention concepts.
Operational Technology (Preferred)
Experience supporting or designing systems in OT or industrial environments is a plus.
Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, or plant floor systems preferred.
Understanding of uptime, safety, and operational continuity requirements.
Required Qualifications
Expert level experience as an IT System Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer.
Experience with Control Systems Servers.
Strong infrastructure and system design experience (architecture ownership required).
Advanced Windows Server and Active Directory experience.
VMware or Hyper‑V virtualization expertise.
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
Willingness to travel up to 30%.
Preferred Qualifications
Manufacturing or industrial environment exposure.
SCCM design and automation experience.
