Job Summary Provides excellent customer service to the University of Utah community and visitors by ensuring parking accommodations are monitored and patrolled on a regular basis for parking infractions in order to keep parking areas accessible to authorized permit holders and special‑use patrons.
Responsibilities
Patrol parking lots, checking for proper permits and issuing citations for improper parking.
Assist in providing motorist services such as starting cars, directing people to available parking and specific buildings on campus.
Help visitors and registered users of the campus parking system understand regulations and parking availability in different areas of the campus.
Process copies of issued citations and complete forms related to work performed during shift.
Direct traffic in parking lots during special events (football, basketball, entertainment events, theatrical productions, University‑wide events such as commencement).
Impound vehicles parked in tow‑away zones or that have excessive citations in accordance with departmental procedures.
Testify in court concerning contested citations as requested by the Attorney General’s office.
Set up, take down, maintain, and inventory all equipment needed for special‑event parking.
Collect revenue from day‑pass machines and meters.
Perform preventive maintenance on parking‑lot equipment and order new equipment as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years related parking enforcement experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Valid Utah driver’s license.
Demonstrated human‑relation and effective communication skills.
Must be able to pass a background review.
Preferences
Computer experience including word processing and spreadsheet skills.
Ability to evaluate and resolve parking issues and payment options for customers’ impounded vehicles.
Good judgment and honesty when collecting payments for unpaid tickets in the field.
Ability to handle high‑stress and crisis situations and a commitment to provide excellent customer service.
Lawful operation of a motor vehicle and ability to ride a mountain bike.
Special Instructions Summary Additional Information The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”). Eligible new hires with prior URS service may elect to enroll in URS if they make the election before they become eligible for retirement (usually the first day of work).
