The University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking to hire a

Senior Social Worker or Lead Social Worker (SW)

to work within the department. This position will be filled dependent on the candidate’s education and experience. The role will work within our Epilepsy Division assisting physicians and CRNP staff with social and financial challenges faced by patients and families. It will also support the Center for Adults with Neuro‑Developmental Disorders (CCAND).

In this position the SW will have significant practice autonomy and must be capable of using EPIC electronic medical record software. Meetings: bi‑weekly patient care and administrative meetings. This position requires vaccination against COVID‑19.

Sign‑on Bonuses:

Lead Social Worker

– $7,000 (half paid within 30 days, half after probation);

Senior Social Worker

– $6,000 (same payment schedule, employees not eligible).

Primary Duties – Senior Social Worker

Work under supervision of an LCSW‑C, applying social work theories to restore or enhance social functioning.

Assess risk through screening and interviewing, develop individualized service plans and identify resources.

Maintain case history records and document client progress.

Provide counseling on mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, abuse, rehab, social adjustment, child care, and medical care per licensure.

Provide training, guidance, and support to others using resources.

Optional supervisory responsibilities as licensure allows.

Assist in developing policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.

Review and submit authorization documentation for reimbursement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Lead program or resource oversight, applying social work theories.

Assess risk, develop service plans, identify resources.

Define program elements and lead social services program, project, or team.

Maintain case history records and document client progress.

Counsel and diagnose individuals, groups, families about mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, abuse, rehab, social adjustment, child care, and medical care.

Provide training, guidance, and support to others.

Lead social services program, project, or team management.

Assist in developing policies, protocols, or procedures.

Review and submit authorization documentation for reimbursement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications – Senior Social Worker

Master’s degree in Social Work.

One (1) year related social worker experience with licensure as LMSW, LCSW, or LCSW‑C in a related area of treatment, including training, coordination, and monitoring others.

Preference for EPIC EMR experience.

State of Maryland licensure as LCSW or LCSW‑C.

No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.

Minimum Qualifications – Lead Social Worker

Master’s degree in Social Work.

Two (2) years post‑licensure experience as LCSW‑C in a related area of treatment, including training, coordination, and monitoring others.

Preference for EPIC EMR experience.

State of Maryland Board approval as designated supervisor.

State of Maryland licensure as LCSW‑C.

No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.

Hirring Range: Senior Social Worker $75,500 - $79,500; Lead Social Worker $91,000 - $96,000.
