The Arizona Attorney General’s Office (“AGO”) seeks motivated Special Agents to be assigned to the Criminal Division/Special Investigations Section. Units within the Special Investigations Section supported by Special Agents include Major Fraud, Health Care Fraud, Consumer Fraud, and Financial Crimes. The mission of the special investigations section is to investigate fraud, intercept illicit proceeds, dismantle criminal organizations, recover assets, and protect Arizonans.

Responsibilities

Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, investigative leads, and suspects.

Properly collect, process, control, and analyze evidence.

Prepare clear, concise, grammatically correct, and detailed written reports to document all aspects of the investigation.

Communicate regularly and effectively with prosecutors and provide courtroom/Grand Jury testimony as needed.

Be able to physically control a suspect and be prepared and able to use deadly force if necessary.

Provide support to other AGO employees and perform administrative tasks as needed.

Be safety conscious and use proper work methods by following standard police policies and procedures.

Maintain proficiency with a firearm and maintain AZPOST peace officer certification.

Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work up to two days a week based upon the department’s business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

As a Special Agent conducting felony investigations, operational considerations may require you to work varying hours, weekends, holidays, and respond after hours; agents can also be deployed to assist allied agencies in response to a critical incident that falls within the protocols of the National Incident Management System or the State of Arizona Mutual Aid protocols.

Positions in this classification participate in the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS).

Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 90 days of employment.

As a Special Agent, the position will be expected to know and understand various Arizona criminal and civil statutes; the Arizona criminal justice system; rules of evidence; and tactics, procedures, and techniques for general investigations, searches, seizures, and arrests.

As a Special Agent, assigned to the Major Fraud Unit, the position will be expected to know and understand the elements and legal standards of conducting long-term criminal investigations involving fraud, money laundering, racketeering and other white-collar crimes.

The Special Agent will be familiar with various financial databases that track proceed movements and have the knowledge to conduct analysis of financial statements.

As a Special Agent, this position must have the skills to communicate effectively with people of various backgrounds and education levels using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills; conduct effective interviews and interrogations; maintain strict compliance with chain-of-custody and evidence control procedures; prepare search/seizure warrant affidavits; safely plan and execute search/seizure warrants; safely make arrests; manage time and resources effectively; work effectively with team members including attorneys, forensic accountants, computer forensics experts, administrative staff, and other investigators; and maintain proficiency with a firearm.

As a Special Agent, the position will be expected to know and understand various Arizona criminal and civil statutes; the Arizona criminal justice system; rules of evidence; and tactics, procedures, and techniques for general investigations, searches, seizures, and arrests.

As a Special Agent, the position will be expected to know and understand the elements and legal standards of conducting long-term criminal investigations involving fraud, money laundering, racketeering and other white-collar crimes.

The Special Agent will be familiar with various financial databases that track proceed movements and have the knowledge to conduct analysis of financial statements.

As a Special Agent, this position must have the ability to find, collect, preserve, and evaluate information to determine the validity of and relevance to the alleged violation(s). This position must demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and determination to consistently advance investigations and bring them to a successful conclusion.

Selective Preference(s)

As a Special Agent in the Major Fraud Unit, an ideal applicant will have at least three years of investigative experience managing a diverse and complex caseload with minimal supervision. Applicants should have experience in authoring and executing search warrants and have experience in crime scene management, evidence collection, and the forensic processing of evidence. Applicants must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes to investigate fraud, political corruption, conspiracy, money laundering, racketeering, and other white-collar crimes. Applicants must be team driven and able to collaborate with prosecuting attorneys and federal and state agencies.

As a Special Agent in the Organized Retail Theft Unit, an ideal applicant will have proactive investigative experience including the use of pole-cams, GPS trackers, cell phone ping orders, cell phone extraction and analysis and Title III wiretap affidavit writing experience.

Special Agents in the Elder Abuse Unit will facilitate protecting Arizona seniors from abuse and exploitation through the investigation of Cryptocurrency scams, financial frauds, homicides, and abuse/neglect. Many cases will work side by side with Adult Protective Services, and local and Federal financial task forces. An ideal candidate will possess experience in these areas.

Applicants for this Tobacco Enforcement Unit (TEU) position should possess a thorough understanding of Arizona laws as they pertain to tobacco and vapor product sales. This position requires the ability to work as a team consisting of federal, state, local and school officials, as well as direct supervision of undercover youth volunteers from across the state. The TEU Special Agent is responsible for recruitment and training of the UC volunteers, and must exhibit a strong ability to assess each inspection site for issues of officer safety to ensure the wellbeing of the inspection team. Inspections are conducted in all fifteen (15) Arizona counties and may require extensive travel and occasional overnight stays. An understanding of specialized equipment used in covert operations would be beneficial but not required.
