The Rockland County Office of the County Attorney is seeking candidates for 2 full‑time, Principal Assistant County Attorney positions on the Department's Litigation Team and Transactional Team.
Litigation Team This high‑level title in the Assistant County Attorney series involves responsibility for litigation work of a moderate to complex nature representing the County of Rockland. The candidate will be independently responsible for legal work involving a wide variety of legal issues (e.g., legal research and writing, preparing correspondence, review and enforcement of civil collection matters, Vehicle Traffic Law 1174‑A Litigation, Notices of Claim, affidavits, Chapter 45, etc.) and reviewing documents for completeness, legal sufficiency, and accuracy.
Transactional Team The candidate will perform transactional legal work of a routine moderate to complex nature representing the County of Rockland. Responsibilities include independent legal research and writing, preparing correspondence, contracts, agreements, deeds, affidavits, resolutions, land acquisition documents, bid reviews, and notices; drafting legal documents; and reviewing documents for completeness, legal sufficiency, and accuracy.
Duties Providing legal advice to the Office of the County Executive, County Legislature, elected officials, commissioners, agency heads and employees on a variety of matters; providing day‑to‑day guidance to legal, paralegal and clerical staff when assigned; attending public hearings, boards, commission meetings, and meetings with County, public and elected officials; participating in meetings and conferences; working with legal staff in the handling of their assigned cases; preparing case status and statistical reports, as required; conducting training for attorneys, paralegal staff and other County personnel on pertinent areas of law, newly enacted regulations, recently decided cases. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a license to practice law in New York State and provision of a current certificate of good standing.
License to practice law in the State of New York must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title.
As a public officer one must meet all current requirements of Section 3 of the Public Officers Law, including, but not limited to United States citizenship and applicable residency requirements.

Work Location: New City, NY
2‑5 years of litigation experience and/or law enforcement and transaction prosecution experience; preferred but not required.
Salary and Benefits Competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:
Annual $108,247
40‑hour work week (8 hours per day, Monday through Friday)
