The Town of Wayland seeks qualified candidates for the substitute Community Health/School Nurse. This important role provides community health care to students and staff of the Wayland Public Schools. The Community Health/School Nurse is responsible for providing a wide range of health services to students, including routine and emergency care and medication administration. Ideal candidates will have experience working with preschool and elementary‑aged children, school nursing, pediatric or comparable nursing experience.
Role Description This is a per‑diems, on‑site role based in Wayland, MA for a Substitute School Nurse. The Substitute School Nurse will provide essential healthcare to students, including assessing and treating injuries or illnesses, administering medications, and managing individual student health plans. The role involves maintaining health records, providing health education, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment, and responding to emergency situations as they arise.
Qualifications
Proficient in assessing, treating, and managing minor injuries, illnesses, and health emergencies
Ability to administer medications safely and effectively, and manage student health plans
Familiarity with maintaining detailed health records and complying with healthcare regulations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and staff
Knowledge of public health standards and school health policies
Valid and up‑to‑date nursing license and certification (e.g., RN or LPN); school nurse certification is a plus
Must possess a valid driver’s license
MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Nurse Licensure preferred, but not required
CPR and First Aid certifications
Experience in pediatric or school‑based healthcare settings preferred
