Medical Assistant II – Dermatology – Greenlawn, Long Island Job Description

The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Focus of tasks includes basic rooming of patients, EKGs, point‑of‑care testing, and EPIC documentation. In addition to general experience, the MA II should have at least 2+ years of experience in a specialized area such as phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery or cardiology.

Responsibilities

Fulfills patient‑care responsibilities: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens, performing point‑of‑care testing, preparing for exam, and assisting physicians with procedures. Takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and/or families, answers calls, and provides pertinent information.

Fulfills clerical responsibilities: sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms and requisitions; managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.

Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EPIC) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.

Inventories, orders or re‑stocks medical supplies.

Sets up examination rooms and instruments/equipment in accordance with proper sterilization and infection‑control policies.

Checks expiration dates on medications and disposes appropriately as per institutional policy.

Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations.

Complies with personal protective equipment requirements for exposure to blood and other potentially infectious bodily fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and hazardous substances.

Assists in the maintenance of medical charts.

May perform duties in specialized areas such as phlebotomy, pulmonary testing, surgery or cardiology as required.

May schedule appointments, register patients, update demographic and insurance information, verify insurance, and perform pre‑certification for procedures as needed.

Provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with completion of a training certificate from an approved medical‑assistant course.

2+ years of experience as a medical assistant.

BCLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Compensation Hourly salary range: $25.1095 – $33.8557. Actual salaries depend on experience, education and operational need. The range does not include bonuses, differential pay or benefits.
