This posting is for a Service Worker position with FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The position will be located in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Position Summary All Journey Line Worker classifications and the associated line of progression are represented by IBEW 777. This is a DOT covered classification subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. We are hiring qualified Journey Line Workers for Service Worker Relief roles in Distribution across our service territory.
Journey Line Workers build and maintain electric power systems and restore service to commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential customers. Responsibilities include testing, framing, setting poles; climbing poles; splicing and terminating cables; driving company vehicles; working outdoor in all weather; and performing supervisory tasks when required.
Job Responsibilities
Supervise a small service crew or perform work usually done by one person.
Perform scheduled work such as Padmount Inspection Program, street light maintenance, underground locating, line patrols and miscellaneous construction and maintenance tasks on live, secondary and primary conductors, structures and equipment.
Handle customer trouble and service calls requiring immediate attention.
Install or remove electric meters and services and instrument transformers.
Load and unload tools, materials and supplies at crew headquarters and job sites.
Climb poles using boot hooks or aerial lifts, set and anchor poles, string power lines, install cross‑arms, conduct substation switching, and install or replace switches, circuit protection equipment, meters and streetlights.
Operate hydraulic equipment (drills, boom trucks, diggers), lift equipment (aerial lifts, line truck booms), and forklifts.
Travel by vehicle, motor boat or OUV to access job sites and conduct daily vehicle inspections.
Provide on‑the‑job training, orientation and assistance to apprentice linemen.
Attend all mandated OSHA and company training.
Qualifications
Completion of a federal or state sanctioned line worker apprenticeship with approved documentation; IBEW Journeyman Lineman A Ticket preferred.
Valid Class A CDL license and a successful DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
Minimum 18 years of age, high school diploma or GED.
At least two years of experience as a Lineman 1st Class – Hot Stick.
Capability to assume supervisory and administrative responsibilities.
Strong familiarity with company switching and tagging rules and safety procedures; current Multi‑Media First Aid Certificate required.
Proficiency in rubber gloving, hot stick procedures, and underground and transmission work at multiple voltages.
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 100 lb and work in all weather and road conditions.
Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
Pass pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and Post‑Offer Physical Assessment (POPA).
