Job Summary

The Utility Worker supports daily automotive processing operations within the port terminal environment. This role is responsible for performing a variety of vehicle support and maintenance-related tasks to ensure vehicles remain operational, compliant, and ready for movement or delivery. The position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, outdoor setting. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform vehicle jump‑starts using approved jump cables and equipment. Charge both low‑voltage (12V) and high‑voltage (EV/hybrid) vehicles in accordance with safety procedures. Conduct tire pressure inspections and make minor adjustments as needed. Install, position, and remove solar charging panels on vehicles as required. Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot solar charging equipment to ensure proper functionality. Scan and record vehicle locations using handheld or electronic tracking systems. Perform basic vehicle maintenance checks, including visual inspections for operational readiness. Conduct vehicle surveys to document condition, damage, or operational concerns. Support general vehicle processing activities, including staging, preparation, and movement support. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and port safety standards. Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational needs. Minimum Requirements

Valid Driver’s License – Required Ability to operate an Automatic and manual transmission vehicle – Required Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examination. Experience

General labor or utility work experience in an industrial, warehouse, port, rail, yard, or automotive environment. Basic vehicle handling knowledge, including starting vehicles, using jump cables, and performing simple operational checks. Experience following safety procedures in a high‑traffic, equipment‑heavy work environment. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around moving vehicles and heavy equipment. Experience using handheld devices or scanners to track assets, inventory, or vehicle locations. Time‑on‑task and productivity awareness, with the ability to complete assigned duties efficiently and accurately. Skills & Competencies

Strong mechanical and basic electrical skills. Automotive knowledge, including starting vehicles, jump‑starting, and charging low‑ and high‑voltage vehicles. Ability to perform tire pressure checks and basic vehicle readiness inspections. Familiarity with vehicle scanning systems, handheld devices, or inventory tracking tools. Understanding of vehicle safety protocols, including EV and high‑voltage precautions. Ability to install, position, and maintain solar charging panels or similar equipment. Proficient in the use of hand and power tools. Attention to detail with a commitment to high‑quality work. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to operate vehicles, forklifts, and other powered equipment. Adherence to safety protocols—including no use of personal cell phones while on duty. Accurate vehicle condition surveying and documentation. Physical Demands/Work Environment

Ability to regularly stand, walk long distances, and talk and hear. Ability to frequently use hands and arms to grab, handle, feel, and reach. Ability to occasionally sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl. Ability to occasionally climb ladders or stairs. Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds. Must wear required safety PPE (Safety vest, hard hat, gloves, etc.). Must wear closed‑toe shoes; slip‑resistant shoes are preferred; no open‑toed shoes. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Working indoors and outdoors. Exposure to excessive heat or cold, extreme weather conditions, excessive humidity or dampness, or chilling. Slippery and uneven walking surfaces. Work around machinery with moving parts. Work around moving objects, vehicles, and moving machinery/heavy equipment.
