Responsibilities Essential Functions

Demonstrates competency in advanced practical nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit‑specific requisite skills.

Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.

Assists RN or provider during examinations and procedures.

Documents patient data and patient education according to Orlando Health and department‑specific guidelines.

Performs triage functions, including assessing the patient and determining the next step in care, working in collaboration as directed by the department nursing team or provider(s).

Appropriately administers oral and injectable medications or immunizations per LPN scope and as directed by a provider.

Maintains a safe and caring environment for both patient and family.

Assumes an active role in staying informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.

Participates in nursing PI activities as assigned.

Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Provides care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned unit.

Assesses data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the needed information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs, and provides care as described in unit/area/department policies and procedures.

Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

For perioperative anesthesia:

Demonstrates a clear understanding of aseptic technique and a working knowledge of the specialized equipment and supplies utilized by the Anesthesiologist/CRNA/SRNA.

Demonstrates knowledge of standards and recommended practices for the perioperative setting and shares knowledge with colleagues.

Provides anesthesia equipment and supplies based on identified needs in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.

Assists anesthesia personnel with the administration of general, spinal, and regional anesthesia.

Sets up all invasive monitoring lines as requested by anesthesia personnel and runs point‑of‑care labs and diagnostics under the direction of the Anesthesiologist/CRNA/SRNA, completing all required P.O.C. documentation.

Works closely with anesthesia staff during emergencies and trauma cases; assists with preparation of the O.R. suite, line placement, handling of blood and lab draws, and patient positioning for procedure.

Troubleshoots and cares for all equipment used in the delivery of anesthesia care.

Receives, sorts, decontaminates, and cleans reusable anesthesia equipment.

Maintains and insures adequate inventory levels of anesthesia supplies in departmental service areas.

Assists with positioning the patient according to operating room policy and procedure and transports post‑operatively to the PACU or unit in a safe and caring manner.

Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the Anesthesiologist/CRNA/SRNA and other members of the healthcare team.

Contributes to the department’s effectiveness by reporting to duty on time, adhering to policy concerning break and lunch, and completing assigned duties efficiently, effectively, and in a timely manner.

Other Related Functions

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

Practices efficient use of supplies.

Maintains a clean, safe, and organized unit.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

Nursing School Graduate

Successful completion of a 30‑hour approved IV therapy course within 30 days of hire for inpatient/SNF only.

Licensure/Certification:

Current nursing license in the State of Florida, renewed every two years.

Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Experience:

None.
