Consultant, Safety and Industrial Hygiene
Join ERM as a Consultant, Safety and Industrial Hygiene, leveraging your industry experience to support clients and grow our business. You will apply H&S technical capability and deep understanding of business processes to help clients proactively address EHS risks and challenges.
About the role As a health and safety professional, you will support a range of health and safety management projects, building a sustainable business locally while networking with ERM's global technical team to share best practices across the industry. Responsibilities
Support development and implementation of Safety Management Systems and risk assessments to ensure effective risk control and regulatory compliance.
Perform incident investigations, develop corrective actions, verify controls, and learn from incidents. Support root‑cause analyses alongside client leadership.
Support life safety programs such as control of hazardous energy, fall protection, electrical safety, machinery safety, powered industrial vehicle, materials lifting, hot work, and fire safety.
Support client industrial hygiene programs, including leading qualitative and quantitative assessment of exposure risk.
Assist in developing solutions to complex technical and regulatory issues and concerns.
Contribute to expanding ERM’s Safety Services business: identify and develop new opportunities, prepare technical proposals, and lead new business development.
Develop and manage innovative, behavior‑ and performance‑outcome‑focused approaches and programs for diverse clients.
Design and direct corporate H&S strategies and programs in areas such as industrial hygiene, behavior‑based safety, safety culture and leadership, serious injury and fatality risk reduction, compliance auditing, EHS management systems, process safety and risk management, construction safety, high‑impact training, and general compliance support.
Manage a variety of tasks to achieve scope, budget, and schedule targets while ensuring delivery of high‑quality results.
Build client relationships and foster repeat business through a strong network inside and outside ERM.
Requirements
BS/MS degree preferred. Equivalency of an additional 6+ years of related experience in lieu of education will be considered.
Certification in the field; CIH required. CSP, CHMM, PE, or similar registration desirable.
3+ years (6‑10+ years preferred) of experience working with organizations on safety and risk management, leadership/culture, and/or sustainable EHS compliance programs. Passion for EHS performance improvement and substantial experience delivering world‑class EHS program solutions.
Experience in life safety programs required.
Experience with industrial hygiene required.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting, adapt to ambiguity, think outside the box, and respond rapidly to safety issues in field locations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to travel within the United States and internationally to support client programs. Up to 80% travel may be required. Must have a valid passport.
Consulting experience preferred.
