Responsibilities
Inspection activities are primarily routine and standardized. The candidate will inspect and monitor construction activities at various field site locations in Charleston, SC. The candidate will work under direct supervision of higher level inspectors and engineers. They will use knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; geometry and basic mathematics; and ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications. Communication ability is required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. 2 years of related experience or equivalent experience considered in lieu of a degree. Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, or concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Frequency of travel is contingent on duties and essential functions and may vary by project demands.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Basic knowledge of arithmetic. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications. Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction. Ability to read and understand construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications.
