Design Engineer I
Location: Saline, Michigan
Hybrid position combining in‑office and off‑site work. Associates must work at least three days in the office each week, with flexibility to work off‑site.
Basic Purpose This engineer will support guest engineer / design‑in work with Toyota, focusing on next‑generation electrical platform development for Toyota trucks. The engineer will undergo a temporary training period at SEWS Detroit Technical Center prior to becoming part of the design‑in team at Toyota Technical Center. Responsibilities include wire harness routing and packaging design.
Responsibilities
Input and maintain product design data (3D and 2D) in Toyota’s CAD system throughout developmental phases of assigned projects.
Work closely with other departments at Toyota (and SEWS) to maintain communication necessary for project success.
Output Toyota data and drawings and distribute to all necessary locations with timeliness and accuracy.
Visit SEWS manufacturing plants at planned stages to review harness quality and workability and explain critical points to manufacturing members.
Visit Toyota manufacturing plants through the customer’s Resident Engineer program to investigate quality and workability problems in the vehicle and apply effective countermeasures.
Understand and apply design quality controls throughout the harness development process.
Follow the project design schedule to reach each milestone in a timely manner.
Understand and follow Toyota and SEWS design standards and checklists throughout assigned projects.
Participate in R & D for next‑generation Toyota vehicles.
Qualifications / Requirements
BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering.
0‑5 years experience in automotive design, preferably wire harness related.
Willingness to travel.
Knowledge of CAD design (CATIA V5 a plus).
Ability to work on‑site at Toyota Technical Center in York Township at least three days a week.
Bilingual Japanese capability desired but not required.
