Position HDR is seeking a

West Region Mining Practice Lead

who is a seller/Doer with a key focus on technical leadership, project management, program building, staff growth and business development.

Responsibilities Project management, technical support and program building. Guide project teams, determine approach, requirements and scope to solve client challenges, lead projects to successful completion, monitor and communicate status with HDR operations leadership, and onboard multidisciplinary local and remote team members.

Expand program service offerings throughout the West Region, provide training and mentoring to new and existing mining team members, and participate in business development activities – including client interaction, technical value positioning during proposals, and post‑project delivery.

Serve as an active member of relevant local and regional organizations, present at industry events, mentor project teams and collaboratively develop proposals within the region.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years related field experience

Professional engineering registration (PE) in at least one state, multiple states preferred

Experience working for a mine operating company or consulting in mining project management

Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to win and execute mining projects for construction materials, industrial minerals, metals, phosphates, etc.

Ability to lead a team on projects and mentor new team members

Excellent competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project

MSHA certification is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline

Minimum of 15 years related industry experience

Minimum of 10 years mining project management experience

Experience managing mining projects to a successful conclusion (budget, schedule, safety, quality)

Familiarity with multiple commodities, soft and hard-rock mining operations, studies, design, and execution from exploration to closure and reclamation, greenfields and brownfields

Good planning, communication, and mentoring skills

Open pit and underground mine experience

Hard rock, soft rock and industrial minerals consulting and operations experience

Mine software experience for block modeling

Location United States – Utah – Salt Lake City (Primary location). Additional locations: Arizona – Phoenix, Nevada – Reno, Idaho – Boise, Colorado – Fort Collins, Arizona – Tucson, Idaho – Coeur d’Alene, Nevada – Las Vegas, Colorado – Denver, Colorado – Colorado Springs, Colorado – Englewood.
