Job Summary:

Frequent travel is essential. This technician supports Acceptance and Maintenance Testing for assigned projects and customers. The role involves inspecting, testing, troubleshooting electrical systems, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start‑up, and collect data on electrical systems.

Supervise trainees, assistants, and technicians in electrical testing duties.

Guide, mentor, train, and supervise Level 1 and 2 certified NETA trainees and assistant technicians.

Observe testing, allocate work on projects to capable technicians, and ensure consistency across testing.

Track project scope completion and communicate with ABM and customer management.

Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low, medium, and high‑voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.

Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.

Test and inspect low, medium, and high‑voltage cable installations.

Maintain, test, and repair transformers and related equipment.

Test and calibrate solid‑state and electromechanical relays.

Perform relay calibration and power metering.

Conduct low and medium‑voltage motor control center and contractor testing.

Start‑up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes.

Test and commission protection and control systems on high‑voltage substations.

Sample and interpret insulated fluids.

Complete job hazard analyses (arc‑flash, shock, etc.).

Review and submit timecards, expenses, and project reports.

Document test results and complete field reports.

Rotate emergency on‑call duty.

Maintain strict compliance with regulatory laws.

Assist in the sales process as a technical expert in electrical testing and maintenance of electrical equipment.

Metrics Performance measured by meeting objectives set by the operations manager, completion on time, accuracy, and neatness of work.

Qualifications

3+ years of electrical testing experience (preferred).

Industrial safety processes and LOTO experience.

Electrical, construction background, or Electrical Field Service Engineer (BSEE degree not required but a plus).

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and three‑line drawings.

Experience with low, medium, and high‑voltage applications.

Proficiency with test equipment such as megger, hi‑pot, WRM, TTR, power‑factor test set, high‑current breaker test sets, etc.

Proficient in LOTO and job hazard analysis practices.

Record and interpret test data (components, power quality, engineering studies, etc.).

Maintain strong client relationships.

Exhibit professionalism at all times.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Strong electrical and mechanical skills.

Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

Clear written and verbal communication.

Skill in organizing and writing procedures logically.

Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent GED certification required.

Physical Demands

Work in indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions.

Climb ladders, scaffolding, and work on man‑lifts occasionally.

Occasional lifting up to 75 lb, frequent lifting up to 50 lb, continuous lifting up to 25 lb.

Frequent reaching/working overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Frequent walking, continuous standing, repetitive hand motion.
