Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for instruction in Math/Science, Reading‑Language Arts, and Social Studies through a blended instructional model at Florida State Prison.

Salary: $51,500.02 annually.

Job Duties

Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.

Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.

Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.

Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.

Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Be a part of the mission to provide quality education and support the rehabilitation of inmates.

Salary Incentives

Applicants with a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.

Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one‑time $1,000 hiring bonus.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator’s Certificate; non‑certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire, and a Professional Certificate before the temporary certificate expires.

Official transcripts will be required at the time of selection.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in education, work experience, work sample, interview, and/or reference checks.

Additional Information Background screening requirement: The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes before they can start working or volunteering.
