Seasonal Ecological Restoration Technician

Dowell Ranch, Austin, TX
About the Position
Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a
Seasonal Ecological Restoration Technician . This position offers hands‑on experience in ecological restoration and land management with a focus on Texas grasslands. In addition to fieldwork, the technician will engage in outreach, volunteer coordination, and other tasks that support NPAT’s mission to conserve and restore native prairies.
The position is based at NPAT’s headquarters on the 150‑acre Dowell Ranch in south Austin, where optional housing can be provided in a private bedroom within the ranch headquarters. The technician will have the opportunity to explore specific areas of interest and develop their own project, such as planning a volunteer event or initiating a restoration project.
Responsibilities
Assist with ecological restoration efforts, including invasive species management, native seed planting, and habitat improvement.
Participate in stewardship activities, such as monitoring, mowing, herbicide application, and equipment maintenance.
Support outreach and education efforts, including volunteer coordination and event planning.
Develop and execute an independent project aligned with personal interests and NPAT’s goals.
Collaborate with NPAT staff on land management tasks and planning.
Travel to other NPAT preserves for restoration and management activities.
Gain hands‑on experience in ecological restoration and land management.
Develop skills in volunteer coordination, outreach, and event planning.
Explore personal interests by creating and managing an independent project.
Network with conservation professionals and volunteers across Texas.
Qualifications
Strong interest in ecological restoration, land management, and conservation.
Self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to engage in physical, outdoor work in varying conditions.
Good communication and organizational skills.
B.S. or working toward a degree, or some coursework in environmental science, biology, or a related field is strongly preferred but not required.
Compensation
A biweekly stipend will be provided, with the stipend amount based on the availability and weekly hours of the seasonal technician.
Optional Housing: Private bedroom in the ranch house at Dowell Ranch, which includes shared workspace and amenities.
The position is based in Austin, TX, at NPAT’s Dowell Ranch.
Travel to other NPAT properties may include day trips or overnight stays.
The internship duration and working schedule can be tailored to the technician’s academic or career needs.
