Specialist, Compliance/Health Information
Under the general direction and supervision of the Health Information Director/Designee, the Compliance/Health Information Specialist is responsible for auditing compliance with all regulations (clinical and non‑clinical) pertaining to PACE CNY and the Diagnostic and Treatment Center. The Specialist will assist the Director in departmental duties including reporting, EMR maintenance, auditing health information activities, and other activities.
This position will be located onsite in Syracuse, NY.
Responsibilities
Audits EMR documentation and data for accuracy, integrity, and compliance, ensuring all information meets federal and state regulatory requirements.
Prepares for DOH and CMS audits on a continual basis, monitors all requirements, and assists in corrective action planning.
Audits internal processes and documents to ensure compliance, reports issues to the Health Information Director.
Assists with implementing and maintaining the PACE CNY compliance program, including reviewing programs and providing staff training as needed.
Conducts functional and process audits, identifies deficiencies and advises management.
Compiles monthly census and program reports and distributes them accordingly.
Ensures medical information sharing with skilled nursing facilities, adult housing, and other entities per regulations.
Completes routine health information disclosures to participants, family members, and caregivers, ensuring compliance.
Provides ongoing training to employees on privacy, monitors for breaches, and assists with corrective action planning.
Performs departmental quality assurance duties for compliance with regulatory agencies, audits EMR record maintenance and release, summarizes findings, and assists in corrective plans.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related healthcare field.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) required.
At least 3 years of experience in health information management; outpatient and inpatient experience preferred.
Ability to work with all disciplines/areas of the healthcare field.
Proficiency with MS Office and ability to learn new software rapidly; prior EMR experience required.
Knowledge of managed care environment is highly desirable.
Attention to detail, accurate input skills, strong organizational and analytical skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the responsibilities listed above may be substituted for the above requirements.
