About the Role The Physician - Podiatric Medicine is responsible for providing direct and appropriate clinical care and treatment to Central Health patients in the specialty area of Podiatry. The position is 1.0 FTE and is on site.

Essential Duties

Provide podiatry care to primary care and referred patients.

Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend and coordinate high standards of podiatric medical practice.

Demonstrate expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned.

Demonstrate knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations.

Proficiency in the use of a computer, software packages, and office machines.

Work within the scope of credentialing privileges.

Prepare and review medical histories and obtain data through interviews.

Examine patients, formulate diagnostic plans, define and order required diagnostic testing.

Interpret examination findings and test results, and implement treatment plans.

Determine need for consultation and assist in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.

Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability.

Observe that communications with patients are culturally and linguistically appropriate.

Interview patient, obtain patient history, update all information and documents in EHR according to standards.

Supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.

Provide consultation to nurses and clinical staff.

Consult with other staff physicians and para‑medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and common podiatry problems encountered in the clinic.

Procedures and Surgical Care

Confere on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to podiatry.

Within scope of credentialing, perform surgeries and surgical care in Ancillary Surgery Center or hospital settings.

Perform procedures including nail debridement, callus trimmings, wart excision, ingrown nail excision, injection therapy (corticosteroids, local anesthetics), excision of cutaneous skin lesions, nail matrixectomy/avulsion, skin ulcer treatment (debridement), strapping/taping of foot and ankle, and closed reductions of minor foot fractures.

Diagnostics including weight‑bearing X‑ray.

Interpret X‑ray and ultrasound results.

Use diagnostic ultrasound for US‑guided injections and diagnosis of soft tissue masses.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in a patient‑centered medical home (PCMH) environment.

Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in an integrated delivery environment.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

Directly effect improvements in patient well‑being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of relevant, high‑quality medical care.

Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and Central Health Standard Operating Procedures and Central Health Policies and Procedures.

Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co‑workers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff.

Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with families.

Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patient‑centered care.

Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent Central Health in a highly professional manner at all times.

Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all company policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.

Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure. Record patient health information timely and accurately according to the appropriate standard of care, applicable laws and regulations governing practice of medicine in Texas, policies and procedures of Central Health’s Medical Executive Board and as may otherwise be required by a licensed facility or other organization where medical services may be provided.

Lead and/or participate in the development, deployment and management of safe, effective and efficient clinical services to Central Health’s covered population through a variety of methods including contracted services, post‑acute services oversight, clinical support infrastructure development and oversight of direct service delivery as applicable and appropriate pursuant to the Medical Executive Board’s policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Minimum: D.P.M. from an accredited college of podiatric medicine. Completion of a residency acceptable to the Texas Podiatry Licensing Board. Completion of an accredited residency in Podiatric Surgery.

Certifications and Licensure

Unrestricted licensed to practice podiatric medicine and surgery in the State of Texas.

Board certification by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery or the American Board of Podiatric Medicine or Board qualification followed by passage of board certification examination within two (2) years of employment.

Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number for the purpose of writing prescriptions.

Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through American Heart Association.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers through American Heart Association.

Required Courses / Completions

Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Current Basic Life Support Certification for healthcare providers.
