What do Dental Hygienists do?
Dental Hygienist duties revolve around initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth, and advising patients on oral health and preventative care. You’ll help dentists decide treatment options for teeth or gum diseases. Reliable, trust-building, and deep knowledge of health and safety rules are essential.
Responsibilities include
Ensure patients feel comfortable before examination
Sterilize instruments properly
Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
Identify conditions such as gingivitis, caries, or periodontitis
Clean and protect patients’ teeth (e.g., remove plaque or apply fluoride)
Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care using demonstrations
Give instructions after operations or other procedures
Take X‑rays or dental impressions
Assist dentists with selecting appropriate treatments for various diseases (including oral cancer)
Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
Monitor supplies
Skills
Proven experience as Dental Hygienist or similar role
Dental Hygiene license required
In‑depth knowledge of health and safety regulations (e.g., HIPAA)
Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
Outstanding communication skills
Patient and friendly personality
Attention to detail
Stamina to meet physical demands
Diploma in Dental Hygiene (preferred)
Job types: Part‑time, Full‑time | Pay: $55.00 – $65.00 per hour.
