About the Role We’re looking for a Solid Waste Operator to join our Public Works team. In this role, you’ll operate heavy‑duty collection trucks, automated lifting devices, forklifts, and skid steers to collect and transport residential and commercial solid waste and recycling materials. You’ll perform inspections and basic maintenance on your assigned vehicle, while providing courteous and professional customer service to our residents. This position works outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions, including sun, rain, wind, and snow. It reports to the Solid Waste Superintendent and the Solid Waste Operations Manager and does not exercise supervision over others.

Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License at a minimum level of Class B.

Clean Motor Vehicle Record.

Based on assignment, may be required to participate in and obtain NIMS (National Incident Management System) training certifications.

Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

Responsibilities

Operate (60%) : Safely drive and operate solid waste collection trucks and equipment to collect and transport refuse and recyclables across residential neighborhoods, alleys, and commercial areas.

Inspect & Maintain (20%) : Conduct daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, fuel, clean, and perform routine maintenance on vehicles; promptly report needed repairs.

Customer Service (10%) : Provide professional, courteous service to residents and businesses, ensuring containers are fully emptied and areas are left clean.

Support (10%) : Assist other drivers and crews as needed, respond to spills or emergencies, and participate in special assignments to meet service demands.
