Summary The X‑Ray Technician performs digital X‑ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X‑Ray Technician is a multi‑skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider.

Responsibilities

Safely performs provider‑ordered radiographic examinations, including but not limited to proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilizing appropriate radiation protection.

Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases, positioning and handling patients with a high degree of safety and professionalism.

Accurately documents patient encounters within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors that safeguard the patient, x‑ray tube, and equipment.

Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs, collecting patient specimens and running point‑of‑care lab tests. May travel to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjust work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the manager.

Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross‑contamination of disease.

Reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments or repairs of equipment to supervisor.

Other duties include but are not limited to ordering supplies, lab and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check‑in/check‑out and performing scribing duties as needed.

Licensing & Certification

Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (required).

State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed).

BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required; must be obtained from an approved source before direct patient care).

Education Associate’s degree from an ARRT‑accredited institute (preferred).

Experience One year of experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred).

Preferred Experience & Training

Experience with a Radiology Information System (preferred).

EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience (preferred).

Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) experience (preferred).
