Construction Inspector – NYC Metro Area Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C. is currently seeking qualified Construction Inspectors to perform special inspections on upcoming projects throughout the NYC metro area. These positions offer opportunities for professional growth and advancement, as well as industry‑specific certifications and on‑site training.

Essential Functions The essential functions include traveling to various project sites on a daily basis, monitoring construction operations, and using applicable field testing procedures and testing equipment to perform required field and building inspections and testing, as well as all related testing as required by the project and client to determine compliance with project plans and specifications. This also includes the preparation of Daily Field Reports, communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives, and the interpretation of project‑related drawings and documents, as well as all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Construction Inspectors must possess a HS Diploma/equivalent and possess/maintain one or more of the certifications or additional education as detailed below (certifications must be currently valid):

ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I

ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector

ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector

ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector

AWS Certified Welding Inspector

BS Degree in Civil Engineering

Ability to successfully complete required OSHA training within a reasonable time period;

Effective oral and written communication skills;

Basic understanding of the fundamentals of building inspection codes and requirements (International Building Codes, ASTM Standards, TMS standards);

Must be detail oriented;

Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and transport testing equipment to various project sites primarily throughout the New York City metro area, as regular daily travel is required.

Physical Requirements

Assume a stationary position;

Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;

Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using company email and telephone systems;

Move around on the job‑site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time;

Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections;

Good visual skills, including focused depth perception;

Regular daily operations of a motor‑vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer and other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines.

Pay Range $20.00 – $55.00 per hour.
