Salary Base pay range: $360,000.00 – $530,000.00.

Job Overview Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Attorney IIIs represent DOSH in a wide range of legal issues within the jurisdiction of the Division. They work with broad discretion and independence, expected to be experts in complex occupational safety and health employment law, and handle administrative proceedings, writs, and appeals.

Key Responsibilities

Represent DOSH in complex administrative hearings before the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board.

Represent DOSH in civil and writ litigation before California trial and appellate courts.

Advising the Chief, management, and the Division on policy, sensitive, and high‑profile matters and program direction.

Providing analysis and advice concerning Public Records Act requests.

Analyzing and drafting proposed legislation and regulations.

Appearing before the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board.

Providing legal services on a wide variety of other issues arising in the operation of DOSH, including occupational safety and health law, administrative law, employment law, labor law, constitutional law, corporate law, bankruptcy law, criminal law, and civil procedure law.

Essential Functions & Competencies

Perform legal work competently, with strong technical skills and minimal supervision.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including producing well‑written and compelling legal briefs.

Appear and perform competently in civil or administrative courts with professionalism.

Communicate respectfully with opposing counsel, clients, stakeholders, colleagues, and the public.

Travel locally within Southern California and, on occasion, one to three‑day overnight trips within California.

Demonstrate good judgment and uphold high ethical standards.

Location & Telework One position available in Los Angeles, Monrovia, or Riverside. Telework agreements available; attorneys conduct a majority of hearings remotely.

Qualifications

Either reachable on an employment list, have transfer eligibility, or have reinstatement eligibility.

Must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.
