Job Summary The Directional Drill Foreman is responsible for leading a crew and safely operating the directional drill to place product underground, while locating the drill head, understanding elevation changes, and determining improvement on drill depth to avoid utilities. This position supports the Line team and collaborates with personnel within the department.

Responsibilities

Operate the drill rig efficiently, preparing the job and drill for a safe shot.

Pothole all utilities that will either be paralleled or crossed during the bore shot.

Verify existing utilities.

Fill water tanks.

Combine water with chemicals for boring according to the ground conditions.

Locate the drill head from point A to point B without hitting utilities and at the correct depth.

Hook up swivel, reamer, and pipe product to be pulled back to complete the bore shot.

Walk out bore shot before it starts, ensuring all utilities are located and developing a plan to go above or below each utility or obstacle.

Pull back the product with the correct hole opener and utilize the correct mud mixture to ensure the product travels from point B to point A.

Inspect and maintain job equipment, including drill equipment and mixing unit.

Qualifications Minimum

High school diploma or equivalent.

1 year of relevant experience.

Valid CDL Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement.

OSHA 10 Certification.

Preferred

5 or more years of relevant experience.

CDL Class A license with tanker endorsement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment. The role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, awkward positioning, standing, and twisting. It also requires work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Must be able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds, and possess clear vision at 20 feet or more (or 20 inches or less) with proficiency in judging distance and space relationships, precise hand‑eye coordination, and color recognition.
