The Custodial Supervisor oversees daily custodial operations at the Lonnie Hamilton Public Service Building and other facilities, as required, in a high‑traffic public environment. This is a working supervisor role, and the position is expected to perform hands‑on custodial duties while leading staff. The position is responsible for supervising custodial staff, ensuring cleanliness standards are met, maintaining safe work practices, coordinating custodial services, and training new custodians to county standards to support building operations.

Standard work hours are 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises custodial staff and assigns daily work tasks.

Performs hands‑on custodial work as required to support operations.

Conducts routine inspections to ensure cleaning and sanitation standards are met.

Plans, assigns, trains, inspects, and evaluates the work of custodial personnel.

Develops, updates, and enforces custodial work standards, safety policies, and procedures.

Ensures Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available, up to date, and properly maintained for all custodial chemicals.

Trains staff on SDS awareness, chemical handling, storage, labeling, PPE use, and spill response.

Enforces best practices for custodial operations, including safe chemical use, dilution control, equipment operation, and infection‑control procedures.

Maintains inventory of custodial supplies and equipment, and coordinates distribution, requisitioning, and proper storage.

Coordinates staffing coverage for assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Coordinates, plans, and supervises custodial services for meetings and special events.

Performs field checks of assigned areas to ensure work is completed and of high quality.

Responds to, investigates, and resolves complaints related to custodial services.

Maintains accurate records related to personnel, work schedules, inspections, incidents, and safety compliance.

Evaluates subordinate performance and participates in counseling, documentation, and disciplinary processes, as required.

Communicates effectively with staff, facilities personnel, security, vendors, administrators, and building occupants.

Assists with moving furniture and equipment as needed to support custodial and facility operations.

Ensures compliance with county policies, OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and applicable safety laws.

Operates a motor vehicle as required to travel between job sites.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Minimum of three years or more of custodial experience, including two years in a supervisory or lead role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of commercial custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Ability to supervise staff and manage daily operations. Ability to perform physical duties, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess a valid SC driver’s license, pass a SLED criminal background check, and be capable of meeting medical and physical examination requirements.

Must be available for and report to work during a declared County emergency. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively within varying levels of management. Ability to provide feedback in both written and oral forms. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
