Director of Athletics or Sr. Associate Athletic Director or Associate Athletic Director Purpose:
To uphold the qualities, principles, and standards of Wagner College, the Northeast Conference, and the NCAA. Create a positive working environment, generate revenue, fundraise, and put a team on the playing field that the Wagner community can be proud of. Assist in recruiting quality student-athletes to campus. Duties & Responsibilities: Essential Functions: Each Head Coach reports directly to a Sport Administrator, and the Head Coach is expected to work closely with their Sport Administrator and the athletics support staff with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the department and the College. Responsibilities include: Coaching Communicate effectively with coaching staff, administrative colleagues, and student-athletes Organize, direct, and administer all aspects of the program Develop sport program to be competitive in the conference Create a safe and positive environment for student-athletes to excel Emphasize the Wagner Student- Athlete Ethics & Expectations Practice good sportsmanship and maintain professional conduct Recruit and Retain Student-Athletes Recruit (evaluations and contacts) and retain athletically and academically qualified student-athletes Commit to each student-athlete’s academic achievement Adhere to NCAA, Northeast Conference, institutional and department policies and procedures Pass the annual NCAA Coaches Certification Test Maintain required documentation for institutional and NCAA rules compliance Recommend the distribution of athletic aid Administration Coordinate a competitive schedule and ensure that NCAA sponsorship minimums are met Organize and direct team practices Communicate effectively with sport administrator, facilities personnel, medical staff, sports information office and academic services Must demonstrate fiscal responsibility with budget Maintain appropriate documentation for business expenditures and NCAA rules compliance Oversee the arrangement of team travel and the procurement of equipment needs Maintain on-campus office hours Train and supervise staff Public Relations Promote a positive image of Wagner College at all times Support your team’s Life Skills and community relations’ projects Support sports information office with information for publicity purposes Support marketing efforts through appearances and promotions Support fundraising activities of the Seahawk Club and the College Brief Overall Description: Administer all aspects of a competitive Division I program. Responsibilities include practice and competition coaching, recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, scheduling, and budget management. Additional duties include participation in College fundraising activities and the promotion of community relations. Non-Essential Functions: Mail Duty when Assigned Commencement Functions Attend all Staff Meetings Attend all College Open Houses when necessary Supervisory Responsibilities: Qualifications: Work Experience: 1-3 years experience in a related field Education: Undergraduate Degree Required / Masters Degree Preferred Desired Work Traits: Hard working, self sufficient, honest and cooperative Computer Skills: Microsoft Office / Email & Internet proficient Communication/Interpersonal Skills: The ability to communicate affectively with alumni, colleagues, and student athletes of diverse backgrounds. Special Considerations Working Conditions: Positive Office environment with interaction between administration, student-athletes, coaches and alumni. Travel: As needed per sport requirements Hours: Successful candidate must be able to work select weekends as necessary based on their official job duties This position requires an individual of high moral character. In accordance with the NCAA Bylaw 11.1, any athletic department employee who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures. This may include suspension with out pay, or termination if the employee is found to be involved in deliberate and serious violations of NCAA regulations. About Us
