Altec
Purpose of Position
To prepare, assemble and install vehicle and/or chipper components to required specifications for the Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, Unit and Finish departments.
Responsibilities
Read and interpret schematics (blueprints) and work orders
Use basic hand tools such as tape measures and specialty equipment
Follow established safety and quality policies, procedures, and practices
Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell)
Perform rework as required
Support APS (Altec Production System) initiatives and participate in RCI events when applicable
Cross‑train and move to other work areas to support production needs
Maintain daily time records and all required documentation or paperwork
Install unit vehicle and/or chipper components and accessories
Test installed components and verify conformance to specifications
Apply mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills to achieve quality results
Train new and current associates as needed
Maintain a clean work area and adhere to 5S practices
Ensure safety and prevent errors through proper reviews, continuous attention, and communication with others
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Ability to read, write, and comprehend job‑related documentation
Basic computer usage knowledge
Proficiency in reading tape measures, blueprints, and schematics
AWS D.1.1 weld certification (required for welder tasks)
Ability to operate welding equipment (MIG welding) including arc and gas welding equipment
Strong safety, environmental, and quality mindset
Capacity to maintain daily time records and documentation
Preferred Qualifications
State career readiness certification
Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and manufacturing/production processes
Forklift certificate (if required)
Knowledge of Altec programs and/or systems
Flexibility to work shift schedules as needed

Maintain a clean work area following 5S principles
Assist co‑workers and group leads as needed
Comply with company safety, environmental, and quality policies, procedures, and practices
