Job Overview The Health Service Technician in Employee Health Service reports directly to the Health Service Manager. The primary responsibilities include coordination and maintenance of documents, patient charts, and data management. Clinical and educational duties comprise N95 fit testing, urine drug screening, screening audiograms, pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry, phlebotomy, vital signs, and facilitation of healthcare workers (HCW) throughput. The HST also performs additional tasks to ensure smooth functioning of the unit, employing customer service and organizational skills, responding to documentation requirements, and working according to existing protocols with sound medical judgment.

Job Requirements

Graduated from high school and at least 1 year of applicable work experience.

Knowledge of and ability to apply medical terminology.

Good computer skills with strong PC and keyboard proficiency.

Critical thinking and ability to adapt workload, data management, and patient care.

Self‑motivation, independent work skills, attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle confidential personal issues.

Ability to collaborate within the EHS unit and AMC system as a team.

Strong communication skills in English; ability to assist non‑English speakers with N95 fit testing and PAPR use.

BLS certification.

Job Duties – Data Management

Collect identified information for accurate completion of visit documentation.

Review HCW documents for any “yes” answers that lead to additional paperwork; supply required paperwork.

Review charts for compliance with all EHS requirements; ensure all forms attached.

Shred documents removed from charts containing identifying information.

Maintain supply of necessary forms for nursing and N95 stations.

Telephone triage; cover front desk reception as needed.

Process terminations; break down charts for scanning, scan documents, and destroy originals.

Organize scanned items in computer; distribute charts and paperwork from clinical staff.

File labs and records into charts; prepare copies upon HCW requests; store WC notes for RM pick-up.

Check fax machine and disperse documents.

Implement and document OSHA program visits regarding medical management of employees on HAZMAT, ASBESTOS, hearing conservation, day care, formaldehyde, lead teams.

Implement and document new special programs; participate in Health Service QIT.

Work with new data management program; preceptor/training of new and lite duty staff.

Assist with HIPAA compliance; support JCAHO initiatives.

Job Duties – Clinical

N95 and full‑face respirator fit testing; maintain equipment and supplies.

Complete, document, and maintain records and supplies for post‑offer drug screen program.

Daily and weekly controls for all laboratory tests consistent with good practice.

Daily testing of negative pressure rooms; urine dips; urine pregnancy tests; rapid strep tests; blood sugar tests.

Pulmonary function testing; pulse oximetry; audiograms; biological control for audiogram; vital signs; phlebotomy.

Height/weight; visual acuity; color vision testing.

Stock rooms; place patients in rooms for sick calls and workers’ comp visits with concise note on chief complaint.

Order and restock linens; transport specimens to lab.

Education High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Medical terminology and related medical office experience preferred.

Communication Skills

Read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules and procedure manuals.

Document patient care on established forms.

Communicate cooperatively and effectively in English with patients, family members, employees, and others.

Assist non‑English speakers with N95 fit testing and PAPR use.

Listen well, take direction, engage in interactive dialogues, and seek input for consensus.

Mathematical Skills

Add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Professional Skills

Honest, punctual, adhere to highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and medical profession tenets.

Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to probe, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and speak and hear. Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 100 pounds. Requires close, distance, peripheral vision, accurate color vision, depth perception, and listening ability. Must provide reproducible results in a biological control for the audiogram.

Work Environment Employee may be exposed to infectious materials and chemicals. Stationed in an enclosed room with salt released into the air. Noise level usually moderate. Job requires employee be physically on‑site; cannot be performed remotely.
