Job Description MPI Calera is seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our Pipe Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operators are responsible for measuring, threading, and adjusting flange fit and facing the flange on pieces of ductile or steel pipe. The position will require the use of all types of manual machine tools, such as lathes and threaders. It also includes operating machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.

Scope of Responsibilities

Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.

Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.

Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area.

Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.

Follows all processes and procedures associated with the Waterman Safety Management Program; informs management of any deviations.

Identifies fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.

Operates forklift to move pipe inside and outside the plant.

Operates pipe cut‑off saw.

Places pipe in machine, centers the pipe, and tightens for work. After the pipe is in place, the operator machines tapered threads into the pipe. During this process the machine operator verifies measurements such as thread depth and accurate taper.

After the threads are cut, the operator tests the flange to ensure it screws onto the pipe accurately.

Applies glue to the pipe and flange and uses the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.

For threaders: removes pipe from machine and moves it to the next processing operation.

For lathes: runs the cutting tool across the surface of the face of the flange to flush‑fit the flange onto the pipe.

Works with pipe and flanges primarily from 3" to 24" in diameter, and lengths from 6 inches to 18 feet long.

Is proficient with quality and able to meet prescribed production output objectives for the work center.

Paints and packages finished products.

Has basic math skills, able to read a tape measure and micrometer.

Understands machinery processes.

Maintains consistent attendance, arriving to work on time, every day.

Assists and volunteers across a variety of different machines.

Is positive, hard‑working and effective.

Work Environment

Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

Required to communicate verbally and in writing in English.

Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Must regularly wear appropriate PPE: steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection.

Must be able to work in dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise and vibration.

Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.

Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.

Must have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.

Must be able to operate a forklift and obtain certification.

Qualifications

1‑3 years of experience in a similar role.

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience as a machine operator in manufacturing preferredcuts.

Computer skills.

Position Requirements

Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching and sitting are some of the physical requirements.

Must meet and adhere to physical requirements and wear appropriate PPE.

Will be required to work in heat, cold, noise and vibration.

Must be able to work in dust and fumes.

Must be able to operate a forklift or overhead crane.

Possible overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.

Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.

Must have knowledge of industrial tools and maintenance.

Additional Information 2nd Shift M‑Th 2 pm‑12:30 am

Hourly Rate: $23.00–$28.48 plus $3 hr shift differential
