Recreation Specialist - Athletics Join the City of Pearland, Texas as a full‑time Recreation Specialist - Athletics to lead and plan athletic programs for the Parks and Recreation Department.

If you are detail‑oriented, organized, and have strong communication and customer service skills, this role will allow you to plan and organize athletic leagues, manage contracts, and oversee all aspects of league logistics in a fast‑paced environment.

The position offers a competitive hourly salary of $21.83 to $23.63, based on qualifications. In addition, the city covers all premiums for employee dental, long‑term disability and life insurance; pays the majority of the medical premium for employees and dependents; and provides a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match. Essential Functions

Design, organize, schedule, and evaluate athletic programs to meet the needs and interests of both youth and adult markets.

Develop and implement programs and activities.

Organize and implement recreation center, outdoor, and community outreach programs.

Coordinate event site logistics, traffic maps, work orders, and layouts; ensure facilities are effectively supervised and staffed.

Develop, monitor, and evaluate athletic leagues and camps.

Research new athletic programs and activities.

Collaborate with Communications to produce press releases, flyers, and marketing materials.

Prepare and justify annual budget requests.

Attend meetings and produce accurate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports to supervisor.

Maintain relationships with local businesses, vendors, and other organizations.

Additional Duties

Ensure participant safety during programs and leagues by inspecting sites and maintaining active CPR/First Aid/AED certifications.

Ensure staff, contract instructors, and participants follow safety and educational procedures.

Oversee program progression and status.

Monitor facilities, parks, and equipment to ensure functionality.

Create marketing tools to inform members about activities.

Recruit, hire, evaluate contract instructors and league officials; determine schedules and fees.

Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements Minimum Education and Experience:

Associate degree or equivalent in recreation or a closely related field.

One year of recreation management or related experience.

Special certifications and licenses:

Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within two months of hire.

Salary $21.83 – $23.63 per hour.
