Retail Store Assistant Manager
– Blick Art Materials
Lead a retail team to deliver exemplary customer service, develop relationships, and drive sales while upholding Blick’s commitment to the Arts community.
Responsibilities
Direct and oversee overall operations of the retail location.
Increase sales volume while maintaining customer service values; develop and maintain relationships with customers and schools; manage stock levels, replenishment orders, special orders, and factory direct drop shipping orders.
Assist the Store General Manager with the House Account Program: process house account orders, contact account customers, and maintain relationships.
Oversee inventory: vendor direct and special orders, min/max changes, inventory adjustments, weekly cycle counts, store transfers, RTVs, and shipment processing.
Maintain company POGs, display and signage compliance, cleanliness standards, and supply orders.
Coordinate pre‑inventory activities: create store map, section labeling, pre‑count assignments, product bundling, labeling non‑scan products, staff assignments, and complete post‑inventory count forms.
Ensure compliance with loss prevention, safety measures, Blick policies, and operational controls.
Supervise shifts: opening and closing, payroll, schedule creation, daily staff tasks and duties.
Interview candidates for non‑exempt associate positions.
Resolve associate issues in partnership with other management members.
Train all store associates on onboarding, sales training, promotional events, and featured products.
Communicate daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals to associates.
Coordinate store‑level marketing programs and ensure compliance with national programs.
Manage store financials using the annual budget and monthly P&L reports.
Oversee ordering of store supplies through retail purchasing and monitor expenses.
General Requirements
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills.
Willing and able to relocate for future opportunities if required.
Willingness to work a minimum of two nights per week; close Friday and Saturday at least once per accounting period; work at least one Sunday per accounting period.
Availability for flexible schedules, including day/evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Regular attendance in accordance with the attendance policy.

Physical Demands
Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds with proper lifting techniques.
Prolonged walking, standing, and climbing ladders.
Travel Primarily local during the business day; occasional out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be required.
Qualifications
High school diploma; college preferred but not required.
At least one year of previous retail management experience or one year of employment with Blick.
Demonstrated superior sales performance throughout career.
Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
