Introduction The Natural Resources Police State Park Officers are law enforcement officers who work to keep the public safe and protect Delaware’s natural and cultural resources. Our officers work in some of the most beautiful locations in Delaware while enforcing public safety and promoting the mission of Delaware State Parks.
Summary Statement The Natural Resource Seasonal Police Officer positions are responsible for performing law enforcement duties such as patrol operations, crime prevention, public safety, opening and closing facilities, and visitor use management. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Some duties may vary for each park. Applicants must be available to work rotating weekends, overnight shifts, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
Essential Functions
Provide protective services to park patrons and staff.
Safely navigate sand, dirt trails and asphalt while carrying equipment for an extended amount of time.
Perform vehicle and foot patrols of assigned area.
Monitor recreational activities in the park.
Enforce Park rules and regulations.
Implement appropriate action in response to complaints, violations or other inappropriate activities including assisting other law enforcement agencies.
Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Job Requirements
At least 18 years of age.
Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in narrative report writing.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non‑pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits. Prior to assignment, appointees must successfully complete multiple day trainings in May 2026 which will include report writing, defensive tactics, ethics, rules and regulations, radio procedures, ASP baton, Oleoresin Capsicum spray (training and exposure), and first aid/CPR.
Conditions of Hire DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1B visas. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in the Federal E-Verify system. Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.
